
North Oaks Community Garden began with 12 plots in 2021 and quickly grew to 16 plots. Interest in the garden has only grown with more plots planned going forward.

The North Oaks Community Garden works hand in hand with the local neighborhood association, NEWCNA, but please note that while this webpage and the above email address are hosted by NEWCNA on behalf of the Garden, North Oaks Community Garden is a distinct organization from NEWCNA.

Garden Leadership Roles
Garden Coordinator:
Organizes and leads the monthly meetings, serves as a first contact for the garden. All garden issues that cannot be handled on Workgroup level should be brought to this person first.

Treasurer:
Receives money for plot rentals, fundraising and donations. Keeps track of all financial aspects of the garden maintains a spreadsheet with income and expenditures and maintains the contacts with APF on financial matters.

Membership Coordinator:
Recruits and onboards new members. Maintains a database of plot assignments. Maintains plot waitlist.

Communications Coordinator:
Manages social media, website, and Discord server. Handles media requests. Maintains Google Group communications lists.

Positions are held for 2 years, and re-elections are held during the annual meeting in January.

Garden History
In the beginning:
Enter the dream team: Liz, Sarah, and Danika whose shared the vision of establishing a community garden in North Oaks Neighborhood Park. These heroines championed the cause of our garden, acquiring funds and petitioning the City of Austin to bring the garden into formal existence. Thank you for your efforts!


Initial construction phase:
“X marks the spot!” October 16th, 2021; water spigot install October 30th, 2021; followed by organic garden soil and the shed pictured on November 02nd, 2021.
